Government pledges free preschool education within 5 years
—————————————————————————————-
The government announced on Monday that it will cover all preschool expenses for 5-year-olds by 2016 as part of a campaign to help close the education gap between poor and wealthy students and to help reduce household childcare outgoings.
The government will steadily increase its support to all families who send their children to preschool educational centers to 300,000 won (US$280) a month by 2016, in effect adding another year to the nation’s nine years of free mandatory education.
Prime minister Kim Hwang-sik announced the measures to ensure the quality of early childhood education and ease burdens on low-income parents.
**Key Expressions:
1. To close the gap: 격차를 줄이다. 불균형을 줄이다.
to make the imbalance smaller
Eg. Although Kim Yuna was the skating queen, she now has work to do to close the gap on Miki Ando.
2. In effect: 사실상, 요컨대
In essence; to all purposes.
Eg. Even though Arsenal beat Man Utd on Sunday their title chances are, in effect, over.

French fans demand extension of sold-out K-pop concert
————————————————————————————
Hundreds of French fans rallied in front of the Louvre Museum in Paris to clamor for an extension of a K-pop concert after tickets sold out in 15 minutes.
Around 300 youths picketed while dancing to K-pop tunes for over an hour, demanding that the concert currently scheduled for June 10th be extended for another day.
Fans at the protest claimed some people had already begun ticket scalping after hoarding hundreds of them as soon as they went on sale online on April 26.
Calls to S.M. Entertainment’s office in Seoul seeking comment on the requests went unanswered on Monday morning.
**Key Expressions:
1. To clamor for: ~를 위해 외치다. ~를 위해 조르다.
to raise a great outcry for someone or something.
Eg. When you walk down the street with Nemo and Joe, fans are clamoring for their signature.
2. Ticket scalping: 암표판매
reselling tickets for more than you originally paid for them.
Eg. This happens a lot with big sporting events like the world cup final, or the champions league final. Buy them for around 100 Euros and sell them for close to 10 times the amount, an example of ticket scalping.

A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Hvar Island, Croatia by TravelPod blogger Billnpat titled “Hvar from home.”. TravelPod is a company of TripAdvisor™.
Billnpat’s travel blog entry:
“September 16, 2010
Packed up and drove to Split to catch the ferry to Hvar Island. It wasn’t a particularly enjoyable one hour drive… lots of traffic and road works through morning smog, but we found the ferry dock OK. Being ferry aficionados we knew it was important to get there early… and that made us so appreciate BC Ferries efficiency! Despite having checked out the terminal the day before on our scooter, it still was not really clear where to line up. Finally we poked into a pier area and asomehwat decrepit old guy told us where to park for Stari Grad on Hvar, and then proceeded to wash our windows…. seriously! The only guy available to show us where to line up was the squeegie bum. We did end up being first in line, and eventually 3 or 4 t-shirt guys from the ferry company came along and sat around on a bench watching the confused motorists arrive. Occasionally if a motorist approached them they would tell them where to line up. It was only by chance that I discovered I was to buy tickets from a little booth there. Then when it came time to load one of the t-shirt guys sautered over, told me to start up, then wandered off to a second ferry which had just arrived. Luckily Mr. Squeegie was still there and told me to follow Mr. T-shirt who certainly had not indicated for me to follow him.
The ferry was nice and modern, a little smaller than the Queen of Surrey but just as modern. On the ferry a couple sitting near us approached… they had noticed our Rick Steves book… turned out to be a couple from North Vancouver… she had been a teachers aid in North Van, and had worked with our son, Simon. They were traveling around doing some home exchanges… they had a number of connections through a Croatian friend and were doing exchanges in Croatia, Italy and Bosnia.
We have settled in a beautiful, but expensive, campground near the town of Hvar. The campground is perched on the hillside above a beautiful blue cove, it is 4 star with all the amenities. We would prefer cheaper and less deluxe, but this seems to be the only option on the island. At this time of year.
We had a delightful au naturel swim and sun bake on the rocks along the way a bit, and will tour Hvar tomorrow.
September 17, 2010
We did some laundry by hand this morning, always a fun little challenge! And then took the cmapground’s mini-bus into Hvar. We had a good look around, at the cathedral, the Nunnery and the Franciscan Monastery, but really the highlight was just people watching on the waterfront promenade. A wonderful mixture of townsfolk, busy workers, with tourists galore of all types… lots of Americans, as there was a small cruise ship offshore, and some huge yachts moored along the bank which made for some fun rich people watching… didn’t look like much fun… their boats were just sitting there rocking quite discomfortably, and they were smoking a and drinking their breakfast at 11 am. I think it is more fun to watch them than to be them.
One of the highlights was the Last Supper painting at the Franciscan Monastery.
Then home to the campsite where we had a swim, and then BBQed the Scampi which we bought at the fish market in Hvar.
The weather is beginning to fall off, so we will likely head south toward Dubrovnik tomorrow. We have decided to skip Korcula… it is probably quite delightful, but we have had a good dose of the Dalmation towns, so another $200 ferry ride does not seem worth it.”

A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Las Vegas, United States by TravelPod blogger Mysticalsugar titled “It is warm here lol”
Mysticalsugar’s travel blog entry:
“well our first full day in vegas was real nice, we just went shopping at surpermarkets, wow we spent over two hours just walking around these huge stores (i’m so glad we don’t have to clean the floors of the supermarkets) looking at the goodies on the shelves, such a huge variety of stuff they have here compared to new zealand. We decided to have a bbq for dinner and brian was cooking it and the temperature was 104f and he took a pic just to prove it lolololol. We spend a quiet nite at home and had an early night as we were falling asleep while we were watching the telly.
The next day (9july) we walked the dog early because otherwise it was going to be toooooooooooooo hot later on and then we got ourselves sorted because we were taking mike in to see his friend in hospital.( Faye is in her late 80’s and not very well at all so and one reading this please pray for her, she is very very frail. ) Mike is our navigator as he knows his way around vegas and we end up in the most unusual places when he does our navagation instead of the GPS. He took us to a children’s play area, what an amazing park, it has a waterfall, and a huge pond with ducks, geese, and heaps of turtles. Aparently people buy these turtles and when they get too big they take them to this park and let them go in this pond, hence there are heaps of them. there was also a discovery park with dinosaurs for the kids to play on, and lots of water features for them to play under as it is very hot here. Brian took some pics here so have a look and see what sort of play areas the kids in vegas have, truly amazing.
After we had been to the hospital we went for lunch, and there were three cops there having lunch also but boy oh boy what an arsenal they carry. Coming from NZ with an unarmed police force and seeing what they carry golllllllllly me i would be duckin for cover if they stopped me lol. They had tool belt on with gun, taer, mace, batons, handcuffs etc etc etc, as i said duckin for cover. After lunch we headed home as connie was finishing work early and we were heading to the strip to go see LeReve at the wynn.
Can u imagine the look on the kiwis faces to see the strip on friday night, people, people, people and more people, and cars, taxis, limos and more cars oh my goodness im glad is wasnt attempting to drive and i think brian was pleased that connie was driving. we parked up at the wynn hotel (just drive up to the entrance and get the valet to park it for you, man we need that sort of service in new zealand love it lololol. We get our tickets and thought we had time to have a look around the hotel, as they were seating everyone at 6.30pm i checked the time, 6.29pm oh well the shopping will have to wait as we had to get seated for the show, and make sure we had our drinks b4 the show started. As u can see by the pics all we could see was the misty smoke but then right on 7pm the show started and my oh my what a show. All done in water, above and below, it was spell binding and we really enjoyed it. after the show we had a walk around and then headed to Joe’s Crab Shack for dinner and boy did we have a feed and a half lol. Mike ordered a huge plate of food so we took pics of the beginning and the end, i hope u enjoy the pics as much as we enjoyed the food.
We arrived home after midnight here and had some dessert (too tights to pay for dessert as we had heaps of stuff at home hehehee) before we finally headed off to bed, Who knows what the weekend is going to bring lolololol.”

Hi i am not a red member in arsenal and i need to buy 6 tickets for arsenal vs. aston villa game. can someone help? thanks
Sorry but it’s sold out unless you have a season ticket pass but even then it’s not possible to get 6 tickets. You should try the ‘ticket exchange’ option on the website but I assure you that it’ll be hard to get more than a couple of tickets.
